Loving God Makes Disciples

We teach what we know, but we reproduce what we are.

-John C. Maxwell

If you travel around and visit all the Churches of America most of them will have a banner up in their building that says something along the lines of “Love God, Love People” or “Love God, Make Disciples.” These are great reminders for us as a Church to be focused on the most important teachings of the Bible. These two statements are a summary of the great commandment and great commission in Matthew 22:34-40 and Matthew 28:16-20.

The Great Commandment

34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.

35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.

36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”

37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

38 This is the great and first commandment.

39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

The Great Commission

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.

17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.

18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

In these two passages we are reminded who we are to love, God and what we are supposed to do, make disciples. This is our R.A.M. (Relationship And Mission).

What I want to bring to our attention today is if you truly, madly deeply, love God, you will naturally from the overflow of your life create and make disciples. “Loving God Makes Disciples!” We teach what we know, but we reproduce what we are. (John C. Maxwell)

Because I love God, Creativity, and Sports I noticed that most of all my disciples / students are Christian Creatives who love Sports. Then I realized that my calling is to disciple Christian Creatives and Athletes for the THE TRIUN3 GOD! What is your calling? Who are you called to love? Who are you called to disciple?

Loving God Makes Disciples!

Who do you love and what do you love?

How can you use what you love to help disciple the people around you?

Loving God and Making Disciples,
