Luke 10:17-20 says,

17 The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”

18 And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.

19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.

20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Earlier in Luke Chapter 10, Jesus sends out His disciples to heal the sick and share the message, “The Kingdom of God has come near you.” (Luke 10:9). When the disciples come back they are excited about how they have power over the demons and on top of that Jesus reminds them that He has given them special protection (Luke 10:17-19). However in Luke 10:17 Jesus, says, “Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Wow! Jesus refocuses the disciples “rejoicing” from their powerful results in ministry to their salvation.

In life I get so excited about what God is doing in our ministry but what I think God is reminding us in these passages are that God wants us to be excited about what He is already done. Our salvation is done in Jesus Christ alone. Solus Christus = Christ Alone. May we rejoice today that our names are written in heaven and share that rejoicing with others around us so they can experience the same pure joy that comes from the salvation of our souls.

Let’s take time today to rejoice that our names are written in heaven.

Rejoicing that my name is written in Heaven forever,

Let’s rejoice together sisters and brothers,
