When you think of the word “Mentor” who do you think of? Your Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother, Uncle, Aunt, Teacher, Pastor, Coach, Tutor, Jesus, Paul, Master Splinter, Gandalf Grey, Aslan, Yoda, Mr. Miyagi, Morpheus, Phil Jackson, Greg Papovich, Steve Kerr, Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Tony Robbins, Les Brown, John Maxwell, John MacArthur, Tim Keller, D. Martyn Llyod-Jones, William Booth, Odd Thomas. What would your list be?

The word mentor comes from Homer’s Odyssey. Mentor was a friend of Odysseus entrusted with the education of Odysseus’ son Telemachus. The definition of mentor is trusted counselor or guide. A tutor, coach, or teacher, that is further a long in a subject than you and is willing to live alongside you to help you grow.

One person I think of when I think of the word Mentor is my Youth Pastor Sung Tae Park. He was a great man of God who shared with me the message of the Gospel and “walked” along side me to show me what it meant to live in God’s graces. He taught me how to play basketball, play guitar, and taught me the Word of God!

Also when I hear the word Mentor I think of Paul Kim, my Bible Study Teacher / Youth Pastor who was super athletic was an amazing mentor. Wow, I was such a punk but they both took the time to Mentor me in the ways of God, Music, and Sports!
